We are searching for in depth answers to this big question. As the start to a longer term research endeavour, Simon Sondern, a student at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management (Koblenz, Germany), worked on his bachelors theses in cooperation with CIELARKO from March – May 2013.
From an exploratory analysis of academic publications, press articles and interviews with managers in South Africa, he derived 6 Rainbow Nation Leadership Capabilities (RNLCs). These are managerial characteristics, which appear to play an important role forĀ leadership effectiveness and employee satisfaction, specifically in South Aftica’s current world of work:
- OPTIMISM
- AWARENESS
- FLEXIBILITY
- CARING
- EMPATHY
- INTEGRITY
Dr. Layo Seriki tackled the challenges and insights of ”Leadership in the Rainbow Nation” at the Rotary Club talk she gave on the 29th of August 2013. Follow this link for the review by the German speaking Rotary Club: https://rcamkap.com/leadership-rainbow-nation-dr-titlayo-seriki/
We are planning to further investigate these 6 factors and their relevance for South African leadership with a larger scale research project in 2014. The insights we gain will be used to continuously add to our offering for clients. If you’d like to know more about what we have found so far, do get in touch to talk to us.
